Abstract


An attempt was made to evaluata the effect of Sr90 beta irradiation on the lesion of the cornea of 25 adult albino rabbits (50 eyes) induced by injecting 2´Jo Allo:~an solution into the anterior chamber. Through the comparative studies of gross, biomicroscopic aad histopathological Chan-ges observed in the corneas of the animals, following conclusion was made:
1. Early vascularixation in t:Ze cornea of theseanimals were suppressed fir 3 days following 3 fractionated irradiation, 5)0 rod, each. Nine days suppression was obse:ved following a single dose of 1, 5.)0 rod and 3 fractionated irradiation, 1, 000 rod, ~yach. 13 days susppression was observed following a single dose of 3, 000 rod.
2. The effect of 3 fractionates irradiation of 1, 500 aad 3000 rod to the corneas of animals show a alight difference is suppression time.
However, this difference was thcught to be prac- tically insignificant from the clinical Foint of view,
3. It appears that the beta irradiation with the dose of 3, 000 rad seems to be more effective in sppressing the reovascularization of cornea of iahbits than that cf 1,5C0 rad except the fact that the cornea showed edema, degener-ation, necrosis and atrophy which certainly delay the corneal healing when the animal was given 3,000 rad.
