Abstract


The author histfpaihologically studied various organs of partially hepatectomized albino rats as well as normal albion rats given 2% sodium chloride solution or distilled water as drinking water, and obtained the following results.
1. The albino rats given 2% sodium chloide solution, compared with the rats given tap water or distilled water, showed the weight to be decreased uniformly and also the weight of the liver to be reduced.
2. At tile end of two and four weeks of the experiments, hydropic swelling, mild degenerative changes and mitotic figures of the hepatic cells were recognized in all the albino rats which had been given distilled water.
3. At the end of two and four weeks of the experiments, the hazy cell boundaries, flaky cytoplasm, and mild degenerative changes of the hepatic cells were observed but the mitotic figures were not recognized in most of the albino rats which had teen given 2% sodium chloride solution.
4. The adrenal glands of the group given distilled water were found to he normal out in the zona glomerulosa of the adrenal glands of the group given 2% sodium chloride there occurred marked atrophy, and the longer the duration of administration, the more severe was the degree of change.
5. In the group given 2% sodium chloride solution after the partial hepatectomy, considerably active regenerative activity was observed but the degree was less remarkable compared with the group given tap water. Also persistent liver damaging effects were noted. At the early stage after partial hepatectomy the regenerative activity of the hepatic cells revealed no difference between the sodium chloride group and the distilled water group.
