Abstract


In order to observe the nutritional requirement of Microsporum ferrugineum and Trichophyton rubrum, twenty strains of M. ferrugineum and ten strains of T. rubrum isolated from patients were conducted nutritional assay studies with amino acids, vitamins and nucleic acid substancs in accompained with the observation of mycelial element of chlamydospore formation and micro-conidia production in these media.
1. All the strains of T. rubrum tested have grown well on ammonium nitrate basal medium. However, the growth of M. ferrugineum were diverse in pattern, in that out of twenty strains four were unable to grow and three were exhibited sparse growth in this medium. These seven strains were subjected to amino acid requirement study and it was found that although each strain showed a different pattern in requirement of various amino acids Ieucine iso-ieucine and glutanic acid exhibited a slight growth-promoting effect, but cysteine, cystine and methionin exhibited a marked growth stimulatory effect on both auxotrophs and poor growth strains and these amino acids indicate a obvious essential nutritional requirement for these strains. Pigment production and chlamydospore formation were also prominant in these amino acids-added media.
2. Thiamine and nicotinic acid exhibited a different effect on the growth of M. ferrugineum, but high concentration of these vitamins were rather inhibitory for the growth of fungi, particularly this was obvious with nicotinic acid, however, these vitamins exert a special growth stimulitory effect upon particular strains regardless of concentration.
3. The effect of nucleic acid substances were also diverse in character, although adenine showed a weak growth stimulatory effect on auxotrophs neither guanine nor purine exhibited a such property and cytosine and thymine were stimulatory but pyrimidine showed no such effect.
