Abstract


A Study was conducted from September 1 to September 30, 1967 to find out the sanitary status and the bacterial contamination of milk obtained from the dairy farms, milk plants, and customers in Korean Union College area of Seoul.
For the survey specimens were collected from 218 different sources. The conclusions of the study can be out lined as follows:
1. The conditions of environmental sanitation turned out to be better at the college dairy than the other smaller dairy farms. The health certificates were found to be held by in 33% of all milkers.
2. One point four percent of all cows turned out to be tuberculin positive, while all cows were found to be brucellosis test negative.
3. All milking was found to be done by hands and no establishment was using a milking machine.
4. As to the methods of cooling milk, a dairy farm was using a cooler and six were using wells.
5. The most common temperatures of milk at milking were found to be 22℃ or with 53.7% of all samples.
6. In the delivery of milk such vessels, stainless cans (55%), gasoline spare cans (42%) and others (3%) were in common use.
7. The average bacterial content of milk ranged from 6,116 per ml to 497,653 per ml.
8. With the pasteurized milk, the average bacterial content of milk was found to be 13,000 per ml. and the average coli-form content was found to be 4 per ml.
9. The most common method of storing milk at each customer´s turned out to be the one using an ice box (96.4%)
