Abstract

The following results were obtained by analyzing the total serum cholestrol and cholesterol ester level of the arbitrary selected ten cases of normal non-pregnant women, another ten cases of normal pregnant women and twenty five cases of near term prognant women, ranging 20 to 30 year old.
1) The total serum cholesterol and the cholesterol ester level of the normal Korean women were 154.2 mg,dl±15.5 and 98.2 mg./dl±18. 2 (63.77.) respectively, and revealed slight lower value compared with that of European women.
2) Comparing the total serum cholesterol level of both non-pregnant and pregnant women, the latter was higher than that of the former, but no difference was noted in the percentage of cholesterol ester to the total serum cholesterol level.
3) Measuring the serum cholesterol level of 20 cases of mother and fetus after delivery by modified Cares method the level of mother was almost 3 times that of fetus, and no difference was noted in the percentage of cholesterol ester., but the percentage was little higher than that of non-pregnant women.
4) Comparing the total serum cholesterol of both male and female neonatal babies, amounting 20 cases, no significant difference was observed.
5) The total serum cholesterol level of mother and fetus in case of twin delivery, no significant difference was noted as in normal single delivery but the precentage of the cholesterol ester of the fetus was higher than that of mother.
