Effect of Electro-Shock and X-Irradiation on Water and Electrolyte Distribution in various Rabbit Tissues.

Abstract


Rabbits were subjected to electric shock and X-irradiation and were studied with respect to their various tissue water contents and electrolytes distribution comparing with a control group of the animaL
The conclusion is as follow;
1. Na, K and Cl were decreased in serum to effect a low electrolytic condition after electric shock and X-irradiation.
2. Cl increased in all the tissues studied, .resulting in a increase in the extracellular Cl space, the effect of which was more pronounced in the electric shock group and in the group 4 days after X-irradiation, but moderate in that 5 hours after X-irradiation.
3. Na and exttacellular Na space increased in the liver, kidney, - small intestine and cardiac muscle, but decreased in the lung, skeletal muscle and brain of the animal. The degree of the effect among groups is the same as in Cl increase.
4. K varied generally in opposition to Na variation. Immediately after electric shock and 4 days after X-irradiation, most tissues show extremely abnormal distribution of the electrolytes.
The unique increase in Cl and reciprocal relationship of Na with K were observed to have tissue specific respronse, but they were not significant in the group 5 hours after X-irradiation.
