Abstract


the purpose of this study was to examine the association of occupational activity, particularly prolonged activity with gestational age and low brith weight.
A total of 1,140 delivered women who were not complicated in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yeungnam University Hospital from march to June 1992, were introduced to the study.
@ES The results were summarized as follows:
@EN 1. The rate of preterm birth was higher in women with active jobs(12.9%), compared with unemployed (7.3%0 women and women with sedentary jobs(4.2%).
The odds of preterm delivery in the active group was 1.7%(95% confidence interval of 1.30~3.00).
2. The rate of low birth weight (<2,500gm) was higher in women with active job(7.1%), compared with uneomployed women(5.8%) and women with sedentary jobs (4.2%), but the association between each job was not significant.
Gestational age is significantly correlated with birth weight, maternal age, placental weight, (P<0.01), pregravid weight and parity(P<0.05).
Birth weight is significantly correlated with placental weight, gestational age, pregravid weight (p<0.01), hemoglobin, and education (P<0.05).
