Abstract

1) Observation was made in the endometrium obtained preoperatively in 106 cases of ectopic pregnancy, on the decidual change & Arias-Stella reaction.
2) Arias-Stella reaction was observed in 34 cases(32%) out of 106 cases of ectopic pregnancy.
3) The endometrium without decidual transformation was found in 67 cases(63.3 % ).
4) Arias-Stella reaction in the endometrium was observed in 23 cases(34.3%) out of 67 cases of non-decidual transformation.
5) Decidual transformation was found in 39 cases(36.7%) out of all the cases of ectopic pregnancy.
6) The use of Arias-Stella reaction & decidual change for :the histological diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy increased the rate of correct diagnosed cases in this series from 36.7.% (the rate.of decidual change) to 58.4% (the rate of decidual change plus Arias-Stella reaction). Arias-Stella reaction does¢¥ not represent a specific. histological test for ectopic pregnancy but it may be practical value for the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy.
