Abstract

Cysticercosis in man is caused by the development of Taenia solium larvae, called cysticercus cellulosae.
There are three possible methods by which a man may acquire cysticercosis:
1. By ingestion of fresh vegetables or foods contaminated with eggs of Taenia solium.
2. By anus-to-mouth contamination.
3. By regurgitation of eggs discharged from the adult parasite.
In man the cysticercus can develop in any place including central nervous system. When the central nervous system is involved by cysticercus develop various neurological symptoms such as signs of increased intracranial pressure, epileptic seizures, focal symptoms and hydrocephalus, ect.
In this report we described a case of surgically removed large cysticercus in the third ventricle in a 26 year old Korean man. There was no evidence o£ involvement of other site.
