A Case of Bronchoesophageal Fistule

Abstract


The author has recently experienced a case of broncho-esophageal fistule.
A 31-year-old male was admitted with the chief complaint of productive coughing which had gradually developed for past 15 years. From about 9 years prior, above productive coughing was more aggravated on swallowing of. liquid diet and hemoptysis was accompanied occationally.
Physical examination revealed inspiratory rales auscultated on the base of the right lower lung field.
Esophagoscopie finding showed whitish coated small lesion which was located on right side of the wall of the esophagus 29 cm. below from the incisiye teeth, but it was not identified the orfice, of the broncho-esophageal fistule.
X-ray findings of the chest P-A showed irregular edged hens egg sized hazy density on the right hilar area, and esophagogram revealed esophageal fistule with irregular edged hens egg sized barium retained shadow on the right lower lobe near the hilar region.
Operative findings showed esophageal fistule which was originated from the lower third and penetrated to the right lower lobe parenchyme and communicated with to medial area of the right lower lobe bronchus.
Histopathological examination revealed as non-specific inflammatory findings.
This patient was treated with right lower lobectomy with esophageal fistulectomy.
