Abstract


When performing guided bone regeneration(GBR) in severely resorbed ridge, tenting screws could provide structural support to barrier membrane and prevent collapse of particle bone grafts due to wound pressure. The aim of this cases report is to present three cases in which ridge augmentation using tenting screws was done to achieve adequate available bone for implant placement in severely atrophic alveolar ridge. After reflection of full thickness flap following horizontal and vertical incisions, decortication was performed on exposed alveolar ridge. Tenting screws were inserted in a desired direction to augment ridge. Particulated bone graft materials were placed around the screws and in bony defects. Resorbable barrier membrane covered the augmented bone defects. If necessary, the membrane was fixed with suture or fixation pins. Flap was coronally advanced by periosteal releasing incision and sutured with tension-free suture. Suture was removed in 2 weeks. After healing period of at least 4 months, tenting screws were removed. The ridge was augmented enough to place implants. This report showed successful outcome of GBR with tenting screw in severely resorbed ridge.
