Abstract

Cultured form of Entamoeba gingivalis originated from a periodontitis case (culture form) and E. gingivalis which was directly taken from the periodontal tissues (oral form) were sampled for comparative microscopical studies.
1. Cytoplasmic projections were observed more in oral form than in culture form.
2. Uroid-like structure was observed only in oral form.
3. Dense pigment rods were distributed only in the cytoplasm of oral form.
4. In food vacuole, whorls were observed in both.
5. Mitochondria, Golgi apparatus were not found in both.
6. The number of nuclear pore was observed more in oral form than culture form, and mass -like dense bodies and dense granules were scattered lining nuclear membrane in the former.
