Distribution of ^(131)I-RISA in the Intestinal Epithelia of Parasite Infested Animals

Abstract


Radio-osptope serum albumin(^(131)I-RISA) was given orally or intravenously to dogs which were infected with Ancylostoma caninum or Toxocaracanis, and to rabbits infected with Clonorchis´ sinensis. The pattern of distribution of nutrient in intestinal tissues was examined autoradiographically. The intestine was divided into 6 parts; duodenum, jejunum, ileum, caecum, colon and rectum. Epithelia, the properlayer of the villi, submucosa and lymphatics of each part were examined for the distribution.
1. Distribution density of the radio-isotope in the intestine of the parasitic infected group was. comparatively low as compared with the non-infected group but was evenly distributed.
2. The ingesta of the infected group showed a much higher sensitivity as compared with the non-infected in both the orally and parenterally adminstered group.
3. The mean radio-activity of intestinal tissues was 1.3 mμ Ci/Gm(0.2~2.5) in the ascarisinfected dogs and 1. 1 mp Ci/Gm(0.7~1.8) in these infected with hookworm through the oral administration of ^(131)I-RISA. In non-infected group, the values were 9.1 m,u Ci/Gm(6.0~11.2) and 15.5 mμ Ci/Gm respectively.
4. The intestinal tissues of rabbits infected with Clonorchis sinensis showed poor absorption, but no enteropathy. In the orally administered. group radio-activity was 17. 3 m,u Ci/Gm in the control group, 9.2 mμ Ci/Gm in the infected group. In parenterally administered group the activity was 17.0 mμ Ci/Gm in the control and 17. 4 mμ Ci/Gm in the infected group.
