Abstract

Entamoeba histolytica, strains YS-27 and YS-37 which maintained in modified diphasic medium, were inoculated directly into liver of mice, rats, golden hamsters and also intravenously into the superior mesenteric vein of the rabbits. Six to 11 days after the inoculation, the animals were sacrificed and examined the liver in relation to parasitological and pathological findings.
In healthy control, amoebic abscess was not produced in mice, rats and rabbits except in the golden hamsters.
Vacuolization of the hepatic lobule was seen 3 hours after injection of thioacetamide, and mild fatty degeneration was seen 24 hours after carbon tetrachloride injection.
All the rats pretreated with thioacetamide and carbon tetrachloride formed abscess in the liver.
