Studies on Bacteriophage Types of Coagulase Position Staphylococci Isolated from Impetigo Bullosa

Abstract


In order to study the phage patterns of coagulase positive staphylococci and their relationships to impetigo bullosa, and staphylococci were isolated from the lesions of impetigo bullosa, and nasal cavity, throat and finger tips of the patients, patients´ mothers and normal persons.
The cases were 73 bullous impetigo patients, 47 patients´ mothers and 60 normal persons. For those 60 normal persons, the samples were taken every month for 12 months.
Total 1, 397 strains of coagulase positive staphylococci obtained from those cases, among which 630 strains were studied for their bacteriophage types, and following results were obtained.
1. Isolation rate of coagulase positive shaphylococci:
1) Coagulase positive staphylococci were isolated in 93.2% of primary (bullous) lesions and 71.0% of secondary(eroded or crusted) lesions
2) Isolation rate of coagulase positive staphylococcus other than skin lesions was highest in the nasal cavity, and lower in the finger tips and throat of the patients.
3) Isolation rate was highest in the nasal car-ity of both patients% mothers and normal persons but it was lower than that of the patients.
2. Distribution of phage groups:
1) Among 183 strains isolated from the lesions, 38.3J was belong to group jl, 22.4% was group 1(1 and proportion of mixed group or group 1 was lower than those group II and II[
2) Distribution of phage groups was di:Eferent between the strains isolated from primary and secondary lesion. 44.2% of strains was group ~j isolated from primary lesions, 28.6% of strains were group 11 and 20%~-21.4% of strains were group ~[ and mixed group isolated from secondary lesions.
3) Among the strains isolated from nasal cavity, throat and finger tips of the patients, patients´ mothers and normal persons, the strains of group II were highest in proportion and those of group I were lowest, but the strains of mixed group and group pl were different: by its location.
3. Distribution of phage types:
1) Among the strains isolated from lesions, the strains of phage type 71 were 28.4%, type 3C/71 were 4.4 jo, and other phage types were lower and wider in range. The strains of type 71 were 74.3 0 of all strains of group II
2) Phage type 71 was 30.9% of the strains isolated from primary lesions and 22.6% of those from secondary lesions.
3) Isolation rate of the strains of phage type 71 was higher in the nasal cavities of patients and patients´ mothers than those of normal. persons.
4. The strains of same phage types were isoated in 32.9% of all cases from lesions and_ nasal cavities, ´19.2% from lesions and finger tips and 6.8% from lesions and throats.
Coincidence of type 71 in each location is highest than the other phage types.
5. Among strains isolated from patients´ mothers, strains of group II and type 71 were predominant, and these patterns were :,imilar to those of patients, however strains isolated from normal persons were different inn their distribution.
6. No monthly difference of distribution of phage patterns was observed among strains isolated from nasal cavity, throat and finger tips of normal persons.
