Abstract

Among 2000 consecutive fibe:sopies of the stomach, there vrere 403 fatal pathoIegies (excluding chronic gastritis) at pyloric parti~n including angulus. Among these, x-ray diagncsis ~~as -rong in iI3 (23.0 0).. Besides this, there were 130 cases of normal antral mucosa or gastritis -hich were :cuspcted by x-ray to have focal pathology.
To say for individual pathology, misdiagnosis was dine by x-ray in 14.1 0 of caner, 45.3,E of peptic ulcer, 65.7 0 of polyp, 95.2 of elevated lesion and 33.3;0 of bezoar.
Among 75 x-ray negative cases, there were 13 cancers, 28 ulcers, 16 polyps, 17 elevated lesions and 1 bezoar while ]30 x-ray positive cases for focal antral pathology including 14 cantors, 38 ulcers, etc. were found to have normal muc~sa or gastritis.
The possible explanation for This high rate of misdiagnosis by x-ray c~ncerining antral pathology were briefly refered.
