Abstract

For t:he purpose to observe the effects of chloramphenicol (Cb1) in combination with synthetic drugs such as nalidixic acid(NA) and trimethoprim(T) plus :>ulfa-methoxazole(S) a;ainst S. typhi,¢¥¢¥ in vitro experiments were carried out with 4 CM resistant and 2 standard strains.
Bacteriostatic actions were indifferent when CM was combined with T-S but bactericidal acions were inapparent as single bactericidal action of T-S was unable to determine. Combined actions¢¥ of CM with NA were antagonic but CM resistant strains were highly sensitive to NA singleIy.. Minimum inhibitory actions were additive or synergistic when NA was combined with T-S bu bactericidal actions were antagonic.
when growth inhibition tests were performed by sub-minimum inhibitory concentrations wit above three kinds of drug combination, S. typl:i T~ strain exhibited additive or synergistic results, whereas S. typhi D25 isolated strain showed indifferent or additive findings.
