Abstract


In order to clarify the effects of depressed venous return on E~IG and muscle power, depression of the venous return was induced by applying pressure around the uper part of the right arm with blood pressure cuff, and E1~1G of the flexor digitorum sublimis muscle ~vhicli plays a large .part in hand grip contraction was recorded with the disc surface electrod. The, maximum gripping power vas measured with the hand dynamometer on the subjects of healthy right-handed male adult. A comparison vas made with those of the resting condition in which venous return was not depressed.
During sustained maximum hand grip contraction for 30 seconds in resting condition, the mean fequency of E1IG was 44.7/sec, and the amplitude of Elti.[G was under 1mV in most of the waves (96, S?~) in the first part (1-3sec) of the hand grip contraction. In the middle (14-17sec) and last (27-30sec) part, the frequency vas slightly decreased lout amplitude was increased. And the maximum hand gripping power of the right hand was 43.2kg.
Tre frequency of EMG was not changed but amplitude was significantly increased when the venous return vas depressed for five and ten minutes comparing the resting condition. The ma:zimum hand gripping power on the- other hand was slightly decreased.
