Abstract

The critical role of ATP is well recognized as an energy source for various intracellular reactions such as carbohydrate metabolism, tissue rewpiration and cell membrane transport mechanism.
ATP of vital organs declines quantitatively during shock state because of its insufficient production as a result of cellular hypoia.
Since the maintenance of biologic function is dependent on the continuous and sufficient production of ATP, its depletion gives rise to marked deterioration of an organ. However, few studies have been reported about the effect of ATP on the lysosome and lysosomal enzymes during shock state.
The author performed a study to investigate the effcct of ATP administered exogenously to the experimental dogs on the quantity of thoracic duct lymph flow, the activity of serum and lymph acid ph osphatase and on the ultrastructural alteration of hepatocyte.
A slight increase of the rate of thoracic duct lymph flow was noted in the ATP treated group.
The elevation of acid phosphatase value in the lymph and serum was less conspicuous in the experimental group than in the control group.
The degenerative changes of lysosome and other intracellular organelles including mitochondria of the hepatocyte seen by an electromicroscope were considerably mild in the ATP treated group.
These findings suggest that the administatinon of ATP has beneficial effect on the cell deterioration during hemorrhagic shock state.
