Abstract
Seventy-six strains of Salmonella were isolated in 1977 from patients suspected of enteric infection. The number of Salmonella isolated in 1977 were apparently decreased as compared with those isolated in years from 1974 to 1976, but the proportion of Salmonella paratyphi A to S. typhi increased steadily by years. Only a small number of Shigella was isolated in each year during 1974 through 1977. The number of Shigella sonnei isolated in 1977 was much more than Sh. flexneri. Salmonella and Shigella isolated in 1977 were tested for the drug resistance, and one strain of Salmonella and all strains except one of Shigella were found to be resistant to four drugs pf chloramphenicol, tetracycline, streptomycin and sulfisomidine.
