Abstract

For the measurment of the fat contents and nutritional status of an urban middle and high school students, an intensive examination was conducted on a total of 4,117 students(male; 2,004, female; 2,113) from 11 to 18 age groups.
Total body fat contents were measured by skinfold thickness with a skinfold caliper manufactured by cambridge scientific industrial Inc. at four sites of the body and it was calculated by Kim´s (27) (28) regression equation. And body weight were measured with Martin´s Anthropometer. As the results of this study, the following conclusion were obtained;
1) The mean skinfold thickness of each site measured with a large skinfold caliper were;
At the subscapular; male 8.39±3.86 mm and female 13.44±4.41 mm, Abdominal; male 9.37±3.78 mm and female 10.53±4.02 mm, Lumbar; male 8.41±3.22 mm and female 10.56±4.06 mm, Upper arm; male 6.58±2.66 mm and female 15.35±4.37 mm, Total average; male 7.49±3.18 mm and female 12.46±4.48 mm, in all cases the female measurements were higher than the male.
2) Physical growth and development
A) The average of body weight were 47.2±3.0 kg of male and 46.1±4.9 kg of female.
B) The maximum annual growth rates were 8.0 kg from 13 to 14 year of boys and 4.5kg from 13 to 14 year of girls.
C) The greatest individual differences in growth and development were observed during 12^-15 years of age
3) The mean value of fat contents calculated by regression equation of boys and girls student were increased according to aging.
And body fat weight of boys and girls student were shown standard level of health people (male; 10^15%, female 20^25%).
The females value was higher than the male.
