Abstract


Upon encountering an ever increasing number of frail children at Department of Pediatrics, Oriental Hospital, Kyung Hee Medical Center the author became to think to device a long term therapy. However, it is not feasible to describe the medication of Cervi Cornu for prolonged period. Therefore, the author modified the prescription of Sib Jeon Dae Bo Tang in such a way to formulate the prescription of Bo A Tang and administered it to frail children to find a surprising effect.
In order to assess its effect more objectively the medication was tried in rats. In order to determine the effect of feeding rats with condenced extract of Bo A Tang on the body weight of rats, rats weighing 147gm on the average were divided into 2 groups on the one hand and rats weighing 60gm on the average were divided into 3 groups and the following results were obtained.
1. Body weight changes in rats of 147gm fed with the medication for 1 week. In comparision to the control group a gradual body weight increase was observed which became extremely remarkable. The difference attributable to the medication was statistically significant for the whole duration of trial except 1st, 4th and lath day of trial.
2. Body weight increase and feed intake of rats of 60gm of live weight fed with the medication for 2 weeks. Compared to the control group both Group A (fed with 0.2m1 of concentrated medication per 100gm of live weight) and B (fed with 0.8m1) demonstrated a higher body weight gain. Body weight gain of A group was more rapid than that of B group.
Feed intake by rats of both A and B group was higher than that of control group.
3. Male rats gained more body weight than the female rats and this tendency was more pornounced in the case of B group than A group but the reverse was observed in the case of female rats.
