Abstract


In order to pursue the academic research for the pathological view points of
icterus in Oriental medicine were intensively discussed as compared with many
classic and current medical references. The results were summerized as follows:
1) Pathology against jaundice in the Nae Kyung was shown to illustrate as the disease of spleen which was affected from the liver, and the illness from both viscera; the spleen and kidney.
2) The causes of icterus were explained such as the six Eum, inconstancy of food and drink, over excessiveness of the seven emotions(of joy, anger,. sorrow, fear, grief, hate and lust), fatigue or lassitude, sexual intemperance and physical. factor, and in addition could be classified into two kinds respectively, that is, the external attaks and internal injuries.
3) The jaundice was occurred by mutual contradiction of the humidity and heat, and when the heat dominated over the humid condition it called as the Yang Hwang, on the contrary if the moisture won from heat it was belong to the class of the Eum Hwang.
4) As the Hwang Han, Kog Dal, Yeu Ro Dal, Hu Hwang and Seup Hwang were induced generally the Hu Jeung they were corresponded to the Eum Hwang, and as the Joo Dal, Hwang Dal, Gaup Hwang and Kun Hwang were practically reveal the Syl Jeung it was consider to which were applicable to the Yang Hwang.
5) The Hwang Han, Yeu Ro Dal and Kog Dal could be considered due to the Byung Jeung which was easily display in the So Eum In who was generally moisture containing in the spleen and stomach.
