Abstract
In order to study the effect of acupuncture stimulation on the paw edema induced by 5% of acetic acid/saline solution on the sole of the right paw of the rat, the stainless steel needles were inserted at a depth of 1 mm ; to 2 mm bilaterally on the skin of experimental animals of weighing 180gm to 200gm at the selected acupuncture point Hae-Gye(S 41) and the imaginary point Jog-Geun-Cheom-Jeom the locus on the mid point of the ankle joint on the posterior aspect).
Stimulation was applied by the method of Dan-Ja-Sul (*NM, simple manipulation technique) at the time intervals of 30, 60, 90, 150 and 210 minutes respectively.
The anti-inflammatory and anti-edematous effects were studied by measuring the volumes of the paw edema.
Results obtained by the present trial were as follows;
1. With the needles inserted at the acupuncture point Hae-Gye(S41), the increasing and the inhibitory rate of paw edema formation showed significantly statistical values (P< 0.01).
2. The imaginary locus Jog-Geun-Cheom-Jeom made the results higher increasing rate of paw edema formation than the control group and the point didn¢¥ t reveal any significant values.
3. Comparing the effect the of right and the left point of Hae-Gye (S41), each acupuncture point respectively showed similar effect to the paw edema with the results of similar significant values.
