Abstract


In order to study the effect of Pteropi Stercus and Typhae Pollen known as hemostatics in Oriental medicine, the author had an attempt to study the hemostatic effect by measuring the serum prothrombin time in mouse.
Results obtained by this trial were as follows.
1. The serum prothrombin time in scorched Pteropi Stercus extract administration group was found to be the mean -flues of 8.63 0.35 sec and 11.40 0. 18 sec. in ordinary group. The values was shortend in comparison to the ordinary group in average.
2. At the condition of hypoprothrombinemia induced by the warfarin administration scorched Pteropi Stercus extract administration group showed shortened the serum prothrombin time than the ordinary group after 12 and 36 hours with statistical significance.
3 . With the administration of scorched Typhae Pollen extract, the serum prothrombin time showed the mean value of ,8. 30 0.24 sec. and it revealed faster prothrombin time than the ordinary group of 11.40 O. 18 sec.
4 . Scorched Typhae Pollen extrat administration to the hypoprothrombinemia induc - ed by warfarin made the results shortening the prothrombin time at the time intervals of 12, 36, and 48 hours with statistical significance.
5. No statistical significance was detected at the anti- plasmin action from the scorched Pteropi Stercus and Typhae Pollen extract administation.
