Abstract


The trend of rapid urbanization of Seoul City concomitantly have set forth many Serious public health problems.
Among them, the Sanitary problem is the most serious one. The author carried out this environmental study in 14 underpasses in Seoul city from May 1 through 29. 1969.
The findings are follows:
1. Temperature variations in the pedestrian under passes are largely dependent on the number of passers and are always higher than the outside temperature.
2. The Relative Humidity is also higher in the underpasses on the clear day but lower in the underpasses on the rainy day.
3. The Noise level inside is lower than the outside of underpasses except in So kong Dong.
4. The amount of Suspended Dust is very high and exceeds the maximum allowable concentration(1.0mg/㎥) in the 12 underpasses and the IN/OUT Ratio is higher than 2.0 in 8 underpasses during clear weather.
5. The density of Air-Borne Microbes is very high on clear weather.
6. The average Illumination of 14 underpasses is 18.6 lux.
7. Carbon Dioxde concentration indicates poor ventilation in the 11 underpasses.
8. The Required Ventilation is high and exceeds 1.00㎥/㎥/hr. in 6 underpasses among 14 underpasses.
