Abstract
A study was carried out to grasp the degree of air pollution and to prevent and control the pollution in Seoul, from July 1, to Nov 30, 1969.
Dust fall and Sulfur dioxide, SO©üare measured and tested at 14 site of industrial, semi industrial, commercial, residential, park and main interectional area.
Main findings obtained are summarized as follows:
1. The wind from the east north east(ENE) and west south west(WSW) showed 20.4% and 13.2% in frequency and the main wind speed were in the range of, from 2.1m/s to 3.0m/s, respectively.
2. Since 1965, the consumption rate of fuel oil in Seoul showed rapid increase, while that of coal showed slow increase.
3. Dust-falls range from 4.4ton/km©÷/month at the residential to 95.3 at the main intersection with the mean value of 38.0 in Seoul. Average amounts of dust-falls by area are 15.3 at the residential, 16.4 at the park, 24.6 at the commercial, 49.8 at the main intersectional area.
Dust fall in July is 44.0 ton/km©÷/month, in October 40.5, in November 41.7 while in August 29.6 and in September 34.4.
4. Concentrations of sulfur dioxide, SO©ü, range from 0.027ppm at the Park to 0.221 at the industrial with the mean value of 0.066 in Seoul, and SO©üconcentration at the park is 0.036, at the residential 0.053, at the com mercial 0.059, at the main intersectional 0.062, at thesemi-industrial 0.065 and at the industrial area 0.104. The positive correlation between the fuel consumption and the emission of sulfur dioxide is revealed with the coefficient of correlation index, r=0.93(p<0.01).
