Abstract

The health of housewives those were exposed to Carbon Monoxide polluted air during use of the coal briquette, has been serious problems in the view of the public health in this country.
So the investigation was attempted to find out the amount of Carbon Monoxide in kitchens of 184 houses when housewives cooked, from October 2, 1972 to October 30, 1972.
The major findings obtained from this experiment were as follows;
1. The mean concentrations of Carbon Monoxide was 59ppm.
2. The Carbon Monoxide concentrations of 15 households(8.1%) exceeded 100ppm known to be the maximum permissible concentrations.
3. Mean concentrations of Carbon Monoxide were 53ppm at Korean style houses, 68ppm at Western style ones, 46ppm at apartments, and 71ppm at Korean-western mixed style houses.
Carbon Monoxide in apartment did not exceeded 100ppm which was the maximum permissible concentration in the air.
4. The Carbon Monoxide concentration decreased proportionally with the decrease of kitchen space.
5. The mean of Carbon Monoxide concentrations was 93ppm until 2 hours after coal briquette changed.
6. In higher concentration of Carbon Monoxide was observed in the higher atmospheric temperature and lower pressure.
