Abstract

The study was aimed at identifying the major factors affecting the degree of degree of satisfaction of husband-wife interaction, particularly at searching the correlation, particularly at searching the correlation between family planning practice and the sexual life of the couples. Interviews were made with 300 female out-patients at Ob-Gyn ward of the Seoul National University Hospital from June first to the end of August, 1974. The interviews were made directly by this investigator, a nurse of the Ob-Gyn ward, following a structured schedule.
Major findings are as follows;
1. The average age of the respondents was 32.1 years whereas that of their husband ´35.4 years.
2. Their educational levels were comparatively high 45.0% of high school graduates, 32.0% of college or above, 14.0% of middle school level, and 9.0% of elementary school graduates.
3. The average numbers of son and daughter they owned were 1.0, respectively.
4. The current practice rate of the respondents was 59% and the ever-practice rate was 8.0%. The rest (33.0%) has never practiced. Among the non-practicing cases, 30 women or 10% wanted no more children but were not practicing contraception, whom we labeled "Pong-Eem"case
5. The distribution of figures showed a general tendency to have correlations between family planning practice and degree of pregnancy phobia although statistically they were not significant most possibly because the age variable was interfering.
In conclusion, age seems to be the most significant factor affecting their attitudes toward and degree of satisfaction of their sexual life. The variable of family planning practice explains much of the pregnancy phobia for the "pong-eem"group whereas it dose not for the young couples who want pregnancy.
