A Study on the Counselling Behaviors and Special Problems of the High School Student Who Have Deformities Extremities in Seoul Area

Abstract


This study was conducted to find out problems and counselling behaviors of the 323 high school students; 180 male students from 20 boys´ high schools 143 female students from 20 girls´ high schools, who have deformities in extremities, during the period of June 1st, 1974 through June 30th, 1974 in Seoul.
The results of the survey are summarized as follows;
1. General characteristics of the surveyed students.
1) On the occupation of the students parents, 46.2% were engaged in salesman. The monthly income of a family under 100.000 won was 79.9%. The educational background of the parents were revealed as high school graduate and above was 64.8%
2) On the religion of the surveyed students 55.4% were none religion, 21.2% were Buddhist desired future occupation were: medical field 34.3%, social science field 33.6% and desired educational achievement of college and above were 88.2%.
3) On the means of transportation to school, 63.2% utilized the bus, 29.1% on foot. The distance of attendance less than 2km were 29.1% under 4km were 50%. A total of 50.2% complained of difficulty on the distance. The reason; 29.6% of them suffered of physical pains, 22.2% complained discomfort in getting an and off the bus.
4) On extra curricula activities in and outside of the school 33.7% were participating the activities and 88.0% of them were satisfied the activity. Reasons of satisfactions; 31.0% of them alleged acquaaintance with new friends with whom they share good friendship 66.3% of non participating students claimed their reasons for not participating the activities were that: 51.4% had no chance during school life, 41.8% had no neccessity for out school activity.5) Present status on penpal activity, 24.8% of object-students were participating in the activity, and 60.0% of participating students were friend who can share with friendship. 71.6% of non penpal students desired to have penpal activity in future and disired objects of 52.9% of them were good friend.
6) On athletic class activities in school 46.4% of object-students were in free class activity without teacher´s guidance 26% had regular class with healthy classmates and the only one of the object-students had undergone a special guidance. On the desired athletic class activities while 29.4% of them wanted to have special guidance and call of attentions.
7) On frequency to visit the school health nursing room 66.4% of object-students did not visit at all per month. the average usage by the students marked 0.6 times per person per month, 73.9% of the 33.6% who had visited to the nursing room were for sample emergency care, 11.3% for health consultation.
8) under special circumstance in school such as picnic 55.4% of the object-students recieved no specific priviledge to participate such school activity minor transporttations were provided for less than 6.2% of object-students and 18.9% sent no response
