Abstract
To study the status of induced abortion practiced among Korean women and find out various factors; related to the practice, the survey was carried out. The survey area was divided into 4 groups; large city, medium and small city, Eup and Myon areas. Out of a total of 1,805 women randomly selected, 168 women were excluded due to sterility and infertility, and 1,637 women remained were interviewed for the study.
The results obtained are as follows:
1. 38.1% of all women interviewed had experienced one or more induced abortions.
2. More than a half of the women aged 35 or more had experiences of induced abortion.
3. The urban women with high living standard and education had experienced more induced abortions. These phenomena suggest the possibility of increase of induced abortion for the future due to expected tendency of urbanization and improvement of living standard.
4. In general, the frequency of induced abortion is directly proportional to the number of living children.
5. More than holf of the women currently practicing family planning had experienced induced abortion already.
