Abstract


The assessment of characteristics of the learner is an essential factor basic to planning teaching.
This study was performed during September through December 1975 to investigate the value-orientation of students and graduates of The School of Nursing, National Medical Center in order to provide data for curriculum reform..
177 students and 80 graduates employed at the National Medical Center were randomly sampled, data were gathered for analysis of their opinion of the school life in, general, curriculum, facilities, attitude towards nursing profession and current individual problems.
The results are as follows;
1. Level of satisfaction of school life in general revealed to be low. (students (22.60 % ). graduates 6.25 % ) 2. Preferred field of employment after graduation differed; 45.19% of students preferred to go abroad while 40.5% of graduates prefered t4 be employed at hospitals.
3. Obligation of service at the National Medical Center after graduation revealved to be positively accepted by both groups; (student=69.49%, graduates=61.25%) however, length of service seemed too long.
4. Level of satisfaction towards curriculum revealed to be low; 61.02 % of students and 68.75 % of graduates revealed to be dissatisfied.
The most- prevalent real ns of dissatisfaction revealed to be the lack of general education (liberal arts and sciences) and: lack of logical sequence of curriculum ´plan-ning in both groups.
The clinical teaching was acceped as an essential part of nursing education by both groups; (student=93.22 % , graduates =96. 25 % )however time allotment was considered too superfluous; (students= 62.15%, graduates=47.50%)
5. Response on the necessities, duration of dormitory accomodation varied in both groups; however level of satisfaction was high; students=79.10% graduates-68.85%, The influence of dormitory life on personality development revealed relatively negative in both group.
6. 44.63% of the students refered "employment after graduation" as the main problem confronting. The individual problems were discussed with the friends of same age most frequently.
7. Image of professional nurse revealed to be baguely "difficult work" is students while in graduates, the professional nursing was conceptualized as "difficult" work which needs self-control and problemsolving ability.
8. 24.43 % of students responded on "kindness" while 35 % of graduates responded on "rationality" as the most important component of the. ideal nurse.
