Abstract


It is well known that the tetracycline precipitates on calcifying tissues and may give rise to discoloration and inadequate calcification of teeth. Because of the fluorescent dye of tetracycline, the area of tetracycline precipitation
would be easily detected by fluorescent microscope. The tetracyline can pass though the placental barrier and exerts many important effect on developing fatal tissue.
The purpose of this study is to observe the effect-s of tetracycline on developing dental tissue of rat fetus and to detect the locality of tetracycline precipitation.
Nine female rats weighing about 200gm were gestated. Six of them were used as experimental group and the other three were used as control group. The six experimental rats were divided into two groups;each consists of three rats.
Intraperitoneal injection of chlortetracycline in one experimental group and oxytetracycline in other experimental group were proceeded.
Three new born rats of each adult rat were sacrificed by drowning into 10% neutral formalin and cut microscopic section of jaw with cryocut. The sections were observed with fluorescent microscope without histologic stain, and after then the sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin to observe with light microscope.
The results are as follows;
1. There were no different effect between chlortetracycline and oxytetracycline administration.
2. The ameloblasts were arranged irregularly in experimental group in compare with control group.
3. The tetracycline fluorescence were conspicuous in amelo-dentinal junction, but it was not evident in Hertwig´s sheath.
4. The immature jaw bone revealed strong fluorescence and the outline of trabeculae was evident.
5. It was impossible to observe the tetracycline preciptated line in according to the frequency of tetracycline administration.
