Abstract

One hundred and nine(109) tracheal swab specimens from patients undergoing surgical operation in Chungnam University Hospital were collected for identification of fungal flora in the trachea.
The results are summarized as follows;
1) Fungi were isolated in 63 of 109 cases (57.8%).
2) Identified fungi were Candida, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Homodendrum, Streptomyces, Hyalodendrum, Alternaria, Cladosporium and vcurvulasia, and unidentified fungi were 2.5%.
3) Identified fungi were almost non-pathogenic except Cladosporium but possibility of opportunistic infection always exists on the basis of literature.
