Abstract

The proper management of diabetes patients during surgery and anesthesia is:
1) prevention of diabetic acidosis, and
2) prevention of severe fluid loss and hypoglycemia.
Diabetes and hypertension can be found in over two thirds of patients who have had cerebrovascular accidents and cerebral infarctions, because patients with either diabetes or hypertension develop atherosclerosis at an early age.
Cerebral infarction after spinal fusion (C5-6) under general anesthesia developed and it was confirmed by angiography.
On carotid angiogram, occlusion of left middle cerebral artery was seen.
