Abstract


An evaluation of the dietary intake of taxi drivers´ in Seoul was conducted from July 25 -to August 10, 1979. 82 drivers, including 38 owners and 44 employees, from 20 to 49 years of age, were interviewed. Findings are summarized as follows:
1. Dietary pattern
Subjects took three meals per day., but 15% always omitted breakfast. They had meals irregularly distribution of mealtime and interval between meals were highly variable. The frequency of eating out was very high. Subjects preferred caffeine-containing, frozen beverages as foods between meals. High average intake of meats resulted in over consumption of fats.
2... Average nutrient intake
Total energy intake was rather insufficient; 72. 1 and 72.2 % of RDA for employees and owners, respectively. Of the total, 51 and 45%, 33 and 42%, 16 and 13%, were from carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, for employees and owners, respectively. Protein intake of employees was 89.946 of RDA, while that of owners exceeded RDA. Fat intake, 63.2 and 81. 5g, respectively, greatly exceeded the Korean standard value. Calcium intake was 71.6 and 81.2% of RDA, and iron intake satisfied requirement. Vitamin A, thiamin and niacin intakes exceeded RDA’s; however, riboflavin intake was 6613 and 76.8% of RDA, and ascorbic acid intake was 81. 7% and 86. 7 % of RDA
