Abstract

Three cases of intravenous lelomycmatosis were presented. The incidence of the tumor was 1% among total cases of uterine leicmyomata which were experienced by the authors during the same consecutive period. The tumor seemed to have no prepondarable location in uterus and in two cases the tumors were seen in the myometrium while one case showed the masses both in the broad ligament and in the uterine wall.
Regarding the pathogensis there are two main theories- which are one suggesting venous origin of the tumor and the other suggesting that part of ordinary leiomyoma protruded into veins. There is however, an opinion that this type of tumor may be a part or form of hamartoma, and some specific features of the tumors made the authors to understand the point of view of this suggestion.
Whatsoever, the characteristic growing pattern of the tumor as worm like protrusions, regardless the space is vessel or not, could be explainable more favorably with the theory of vascular origin.
