Abstract

The clinico-pathological observation for Antistreptolysin 0 (ASO) titers was made on 1,045 pregnant women at the National Medical. Center from June 1, 1971 to March 31, 1972, The results- were as follows:
1) The mean values of ASO titers were the highest in 21 r25 age group and the lowest in 41-45. A decreasing tendency in the level of ASO titers with an increase of the age, of pregnant women except the age group of less than 20 year old and over 46 was found.
2) The mean values of ASO titers in the pregnant women without the. past history of streptococcal infections of pregnant women and in the pregnant women with the past history of streptococcal infections were 146.3 u. and 174. 6 u., respectively. The ratio of the group under 200 u. of ASO titers and over 200 u. was 79.9% to 20.1%.
3) There was a decreasing tendency in ASO titers with an increase of the duration of pregnancy.
4) The ratio of the group under 200 u. of ASO titers and over 200 u. in the pregnant women without the past history of streptococcal infections was 79.8% to 20.2%.
5) The mean values of ASO titers in the primiparous and multiparous group were 153.7 u. and 151.7 u., respectively. No significant relationship between the level of ASO titers and the parity of pregnant women was found.
6) The mean values of no D & C group, 1-2 times D & C group and more than 3 times D & C group were 153.5 u., 155. 8 u. and 145. 0 u. , respectively. No significant relationship between the level of ASO titers and the number of D & C was found.
7) The mean values of ASO titers in socio-economically low, middle and high classes of pregnant women were 153. 9 u., 14 5. 6 u. and 153.7 u., respectively. No significant relationship between the level of ASO titers and the socio-economical classes was found. 8) As far as the time factor passed over from the streptococcal infections was not considered, statistically no significant differences in the mean values of ASO titers between not only the pregnant women without the past history of streptococcal infections and nephritis group, but also the pregnant women without the past history of streptococal infections and rheumatic group were found, but significant differences between not only the pregnant women without the past history of streptococcal infections and the pharyngitis group, but also the pregnant women without the past history of streptococcal infections and polyarthritis group were found.
