Abstract


Rabbits were subjected to liver injury in order to study the relationship between serum and liver cholinesterase activity.
Thirty rabbits received partial ligation of liver and 30 partial hepatectomy at % portion of left liver lobe.
Two, 5 and 10 days after operation rabbits were sacrificed and blood and remaining liver tissue were taken out for cholinesterase assay.
Blood drawn before operation and resected liver tissue by operation were assayed for control experiment.
Serum and liver cholinesterase activity was assayed after Reinhold et al ash using serum and supemate of 20x liver homogenate.
The result of this investigation was as follows. 1. Serum cholinesterase activity of normal rabbit
was 0.38 Michel unit/ml, and was about half of that of human serum
2. Serum cholinesterase activity was decreased remarkably by liver injury and showed a quarter value of control after 10 days.
3. Liver cholinesterase activity of normal rabbit was 7.63 unit/gm.
4. Liver cholinesterase activity was decreased by liver injury and reached 14. 8% by partial ligation and 5.6% by partial hepatectomy after 10 days.
From the data, thus obtained, the author concluded that the degrease of serum cholinesterase activity was the result of the depletion of liver enzyme and partial hepatectomy was more serious than partial ligation on the aspect of the degree of liver injury.
