Abstract

Male adult rabbit was subjected to investigate the interrelationship between., serum and liver aldolase activity following experimental liver injury.
Liver injury was performed by 2 kinds of operation´ one waspartial ligation and the other was partial hepetectomy at 1/3 Portion of left liver lobe. Three. 4. 5 7 and 9 days after operation, 10 rabbits out of two groups were sacrificed respectively and blood and remaining liver tissue were taken out for aldolase assay.
Blood sample and resected liver tissue by hepatectomy were used for control experiment.
Aldolase activity was determined by the method of Friedman & Lapan(42) using serum and 10 x liver homotgenate, The result of this investigation was as follows.
1. The serum aldolase activity of liver injured rabbit was increased significantly and reached maximum peak
at the 5th day after operation (ligated group; 147. 4% and resected group; 164. 4% of control) followed by sharp decrease and showed about half value at the 9th day (ligated group; 57. 6%, resected group; 47. 4% of control).
2. The liver aldolase activity of liver injured rabbit was also increased and reached maximum peak at the 5th day after operation(ligated group; 114.7% resected group; 127. 4%) followed by sharp decrease and showed below normal(ligated group; 37, 7% resected group; 23. 3% of control).
3. From the data, thus ofained, the author concluded that the increase of serum aldolase of liver injured animal was originated in the liver enzyme which was increased compensatorily due to liver regeneration but not due to the leakage from the damaged liver tissue.
