Abstract

Cardiac arrest denotes the sudden cessation of cardiac function as a result of either asystole and ventricular fibrillation. It is the most easihy recognized of any of the dire emergencies which may strike the human.
Widespread interest in cardiac arrest during ecent years has resulted in the development of rather standardized management of this atastrophe. Significant survival rates are ,btained where definitive treatment is immeditely instituted. Further progress seems possible a the field of prophylaxsis.
In 1953, there appeared to be an increased acidence of arrest at Brooke General Hospital and the end result at best was discouraging 5-90% of cardiac arrests occur within the perazing room and in general, the incidence inges between 1:100 anesthetics to 1:3000 aesthetics. In combat casualties undergoing irgery the incidence is 1:1500. Reduction in i.e number of arrests. occuring, as well as nproved resuscitation. and survival rates, is to e expected ´if hospital staffs receive regular idoctrination regarding :the recognition and rompt management of this catastrophe.
