Abstract


The author has experienced a case of salivary stone in the submaxillary gland on the right side.
A 48 year old man visited. Chonnam University Hospital on April 7, 1966 with chief complaints of walnut sized, hard swelling on the right side submaxillary region, which was slightly tender by pressure and tumor like appearance.
And also he has complained of mild pain and foreign body sensation in the pharynx.
These symptoms have been gradually developed and aggravated for past 3 years.
Examination revealed a small fistula (0.3-0.4 mm. in diameter) on the posterior portion of the right side mouth floor, through which a hard mass was demonstrated.
X-ray study of the submaxillary gland both by simple view and sialography disclosed large shadowon the angle of mandible on the right side corresponding to submaxillary gland.
The stone was removed out through the fistula which was extended upward and downward byincision under local anesthesia.
The removed stone was a gray brownish, hard salivary stone with uneven surface and was as large as 3X2X2cm. in size and 4. 0 gram in weight.
The stone was composed of principally calcium phosphate and small amount of magnesium.
The patient was cured by antibiotics and local treatment in Ane week after the operation.
