Abstract

In a year-old farmer receiving treatment under the clinical diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, the diagnosis of pulmonary hypertrophic osteoarthropathy was reached by rontgenological study of the bones and chest, and the needle biopsy of the primary pulmonary lesion which was confirmed as squamous cell carcinoma.
All long bones except distal phalanx of extremities revealed typical periosteal reaction, and clubbing of all digits were pathogromonic.
Joint swelling and pain; similar to rheumatoid arthritis, was so- marked that he had been confined on bed.
This lesion can easily be confused with rheumatoid arthritis or other joint disease because of its prominent joint symptom, so in such patients the clubbing of digits warrants the suspicion of possible pulmonary hypertrophic osteoarthropathy.
