Abstract


The author studied the influence of Ethylene Diamine Tetraacetic Acid to the dentin calcification and body weight in rabbits.
Sixty rabbits were divided into 5 groups. One group of 6 rabbits was for control and the .other 4 groups were for experimental groups. E. D. T. A. was diluted in 1%, 2%, 5% and 10%. Two cc of those solution were given orally by means of stomach catheter in half number of each groups, and the other half were injected subcutaneously every second day.
Body weight was measured both of control group and experimental groups.
The 1st measurement of body weight was presumed as standard index 100.
Ground sections approximately 100 μ thick were prepared and stained by means of kossa´s method.
From this experimental study, we came to, the conclusion as follows:
1) Body weight index was decreased in the case of oral administration.
The 5th day index was minimum in 1%, 2%, 5% and 10%.
The index was gradually increased from the 6th day and the end of experimental period the index showed not significant value compared to control group.
2) The index of injection was quite different from those of oral administration. The curve of index. were gradually declined. As the concentration of E. D. T. A. increased, the index decreased accordingly.
3) Hypercalcified and hypocalcified dentin were formed on E. D. T. A. treated groups.
4) These stripes resulted from hypercalcified and hypocalcified dentin which treated by lower concentration of E. D. T. A. by means of oral administration were not clear compared to the stripes from high concentration E. D. T. A. groups.
5) Lower concentration injected groups showed hypocalcified picture and the stripes were not clearly seen.
Higher concentration injected group showed extremely hypocalcified dentin.
