-Abstract-
In the axillary artery, there are six vessels as typical axillary branches. The origin
and the number of these branches were observed from 99 adult cadavers of Koreans.
(197 sides). The highest thoracic artery arose from the first part of the axillary artery
more often (86.0%) than from any other source. The thoracoacromial artery arose from
the second part of the axillary artery in 74.1%. The lateral thoracic artery was most
variable and arose directly from the second part of the axillary artery in 58.0%. The
subscapular, anterior circumflex humeral and posterior circumflex humeral arteries arose
more frequently from the third part of the axillary artery, respectively. The anterior and
posterior circumflex humeral arteries arose by a common stem from the third part of
the axillary artery in 20.3%. Though the axillary artery has six typical branches, five
arisen from the axillary artery directly were mostly frequent. Unnamed direct axillary
branches were examined from 25 sides. These branches supplied more frequently to the
shoulder joint and pectoralis minor muscle.
