-Abstract-
The present study was carried out to determine the capacity of the compensatory
regeneration in the major salivary glands of the matured rat.
Comparing weights of both (right and left) glands in each major salivary gland, there
was no difference between them in each experimental rat. However, the fluctuation of
the glandular weight was positively recognized among experimental rats.
The unilateral removal or excision of the salivary gland caused the compensatory
regeneration of weight gain of the contralateral on after 3 weeks. In addition to the
positive comensatory regeneration there were the hypertrophy and the active secretory
picture of the glandular acinar cell.
Consequently it was suggested that compensatory regeneration of the major salivary
gland was fairly evident in the rat of Sprague-Dawley strain.
