Abstract

The perfusion of Acetylcholine, Nicotine, Bretylium and Hexamethonium into the mesenteric vessels in prepared isolated segments of rabbit intestine, using the author´s special apparatus, has revealed the following effects:
1) Minimal dosage of Acetylcholine and Nicotine always produced enhanced contraction
and amplitude of the test specimens. But in moderate or large dosage of Acetylcholine and Nicotine, "the Transient Preinhibitory Effect" was usually observed just before the excitatory effect.
2) The "Transient Preinhibitory Effect" was nullified by the application of Bretylium which antagonized against adrenaline, and was also nullified by the application of Hexamethonium which blocked the excitatory effect of ganglion.
3) According to the results, it is considered that there are both cholinergic and adrenergic post-ganglionic fibers in the inner plexus cells of rabbit intestine, and the "Transient Preinhibitory Effect" depends upon the response of adrenergic post-ganglionic fibers.
4) The excitatory effect on the intestinal motilty in the specimens was due to Acetychloline producing peripheral and ganglionic effect and to Nicotine forming ganglionic effect alone.
5) At the last conclusion, it is considered to be a clear fact that the presence of the both adrenergic and cholinergic fibers originated from the inner plexus of intestinal wall of rabbits.
