Antigenic Specificity of Erythrocytes in Hemagglutination and Hemolytic Reactions

Abstract


Twelve albino rabbits weighing 2300-2500 gin., were immunized by intravenous injection of human group 0, sheep, goat, and bovine erythrocytes responded in nornal saline. For four consecutive days the aniira´s received a dose of 5. 0 ml. of 50% erythrocyte suspensions as a basic immunization. On the 5th and 10th .days after the last basic immunization, the anima´s received a does of 2. 5 ml. of 50% erythrocyte suspensions as a´ booster injection. One week after the last booster injection, the anima´s were bled and the se- a were tested for the titiat´ons of.hemagglutinin and heirolysin to homologous and heterologous erythrocytes. Tryps´nized erythrocytes were also used as an antigen on the homologous serological reactions. Sheep, goat, and bovine hemolytic systems were applied to the Wassermann test and compared with the results. The results of sero_ogical reactions were summarized as follows:
1. Hemagglutinin titers of antihuman erythrocyte rabbit sera were higher than the herrolysin titeis in the homologous reaction, and antiserum
(No. 1) was negative reactions in the hetero´.o ous reaction.
2. Hemolysin titers of antisheep erythrocyte rabbit sera were higher than the hemagglutinin titers in the homologous and heterdogous, and antiserum
(No. 4) was negative hemagglutination to human group 0 and bovine erythrocytes, but positive reaction to goat erythrocytes showed high heiragglutin´n titer.
3. Hemolysin titers of antigoat erythrocyte rabbit sera were higher than the hemagglutin´n titeis in the homologous reaction, and antiserum
(No. 7) was negative hem agglutination reaction an 1 almost negative hemolytic reaction to human group 0 and bovine erythiocytes, but positive reaction to swep erythrocytes .showed high hemagglutin´n and heinoiysn titers, respectively.
4. Hemolys´n titers of antibov:ne erythrocyte rabbit sera were higher ti-an the hemagglutin´n titers is the homologous reactions and antiserum
(No. 10) was negative hemagglutination in the heteroogous reactions.
5. Hemagglutinin and hemolytin titers to trypsinized erythrocytes were higher thin those to nontreated erythrocytes in the homologous reactions.
