Abstract


This study consists of statistical observation of 209 Cessarean section cases of 4, 680 patients delivered in the wards and babies born from those mothers, between May, 1954 and April, 1953 at the German Red Cross Hospital in Pusan. Results obtained were as follows.
1. Incidence: Cessarean section cases were 209 (4. 4%) of total 4, 680 delivery cases.
2. Indication: The most common indication for Cessarean section was C. P. D. (53 cases), the seconi most common indications were abruptio placentae (45 cases) and eclampsa (45 cases). The most frequent other in indications were placenta previa (23 cases), preeclampsia (8 cases), fetal distress (8 cases), malpresentation (7 cases) and uterine upture (5 cases) etc.
3. Technique: Low cervical Cessarean section was performed in 173 cases and classical Cessarean section was done in 21 cases. In the rest 15 cases Porro Cessarean section was performed.
4. Anesthesia: The type of anesthesia used for Cessarean section was all the general inhalation anesthesia using chlorethyl. ether or gas- oxygen iether.
5. a) Maternal mortality: There were 8 deaths among the 207 operations or maternal mortality rate of 3.8%.
b) The still birth amounted to 33 cases (17.8°0) among 214 cases (including 5 twins). c) The neonatal death rate was 7. 90 (17 cases).
