Abstract

The author measured the femoral neck anteversion in 125 normal Korean in{ants(61 males and 64 females), using right-triangle method of Reynolds and trigonometry on antero-posterior x-ray pictures of the pelvis ´n neutral position and Lorenz position; the following results were obtained.
1. The values for the femoral neck anteversion showed slight increase between the first to the eighth month in both sexes and :n the male the value of femoral neck anteversion gradually decreased from the ninth to the eleventh month. The value of the femoral neck anteversion in the female showed a slight continuous increase
even after the eighth month, and a decrease in the eleventh ´month. In the twelfth month, the value of the femoral neck anteversion as remarkably decreased in both sexes.
2. There was no significant difference in the values for the femoral neck anteversion between the right and left side in both sexes.
3. The value for the femoral neck anteversion in the male was generally higher than that in the female until the eighth month after birth, and the opposite result was obtained between the ninth to the eleventh month. In theme twelfth month, the value of the femoral neck anteversion in the male again showed a higher value than that in the female.
4. According to the above results, the author arbitrarily divided the values for femoral neck anteversion into three groups, the first to eighth month, the ninth to eleventh month, and the twelfth month, It was noted that the value for the femoral neck anteversion in the twelfth month markedly differed from the
find ngs in the other two groups.
5. The average value for the femoral neck anteversion was 46 degrees in the male and 45 degrees in the female in the first group; in the second group the averages were 44 degrees in the male and ,6 degrees in the female; in the third group the averages were 37 degrees in the ma´e and 36 degrees in the female.
6. Ninety-five per cent confidence limits for femoral neck anteversion were 44?48 degrees in the male and 42?47 degrees in the female in the first group; in the second group, there were 41?46 degrees ´n the male and 42?49 degrees in the female; there were 33?39 degrees in the male and 30?41 degrees ´n the female in the third group.
7. The upper and lower limits in the normal distribution for femoral neck anteversion were 34?59 degrees in the male and 31?58 degrees in the female in the first group; in the second group, they ere 36?51 degrees in the male and 33?59 degrees in the female, and in the third group they were 29?42 degrees in the male and 22?50 degrees in the female.
